It's the middle of summer. All week the thermometer has bumped around 110°. What better time to start climbing in Red Rock multiple days a week? My approach wonderings drift to guidbook writing; "Short N Shady: Climbing Red Rock in Summer."
A climber can send on a regular basis all year long in Las Vegas. But if you can't drive yourself up to the higher altitude limestone of Mt. Charleston then you better get good at chasing the shade. So that's what you'll find me doing while I wait out the hot temps.
On the last trip to find shady cliffs we headed into Ice Box Canyon from the Red Rock Scenic Loop Road...
...and found this crack! Growth at the bottom of the climb and rocks at the top seem to say that this is an unestablished pitch. For now.
