Getting there!

Crystal and I went back up to the crack again.

Climbed it all the way to the top! Just a little more work to make it really nice and clean.

Roger the Dog (Backpacking the Bonanza Trail)

What a dog. Horrible manners, but so much love and devotion that he gets away with it. Look at that face and you know it's true.

Establishing a line

Took another walk up to the crack that Crystal and I found. There was a lot of growth in the first 10' that I hacked out. There are still some chunks of "chockroots" that make the initial OW easier. I want to carry up a hatchet and tear it all out.
Off width knee-cams and hand-fist stacks for 10' followed by another 30' of great jamming from ringlocks to big hands.

Back to Red Rock

It's the middle of summer. All week the thermometer has bumped around 110°. What better time to start climbing in Red Rock multiple days a week? My approach wonderings drift to guidbook writing; "Short N Shady: Climbing Red Rock in Summer."

A climber can send on a regular basis all year long in Las Vegas. But if you can't drive yourself up to the higher altitude limestone of Mt. Charleston then you better get good at chasing the shade. So that's what you'll find me doing while I wait out the hot temps.

On the last trip to find shady cliffs we headed into Ice Box Canyon from the Red Rock Scenic Loop Road...
...and found this crack! Growth at the bottom of the climb and rocks at the top seem to say that this is an unestablished pitch. For now.

RMLT clockwise from the Burkhalter Blvd access.

The River Mountain Loop Trail is impressive and fun as hell! I had fair winds all day. The skies were beautiful. Traffic was light and relaxed on Boulder Highway, as I've usually found it to be. At the trailhead I headed North for the clockwise run. Happy enough with the choice. Will switch it up next time in order to have a go at the Three Sisters. May also be a more scenic approach to the lake.

Friday morning ride

Water, magazine, slackline, shoes & chalk, snacks; that's not a bad little load for a morning of fun in Summerlin!
